Vehicle & Signal Position Test
The railway's mock link for CEN 01/2025 gives this kind for the Memory Test
The Vehicle & Signal Position Test is kind 1f of the Memory Test, Test 1 of the RRB ALP CBAT. It is new: the railway's own mock test for CEN 01/2025 gives Test 1 as this kind, in two sections. In the mock each section has 3 questions in 2 minutes: 1 minute to study a map and 1 minute to answer, and the mock says the count and the clock will vary in the actual exam. This portal sets the kind like the House Position Test: 12 questions a part, 2.5 minutes to study and 2.5 minutes to answer, 24 questions in 10 minutes. In the first section you memorise where each vehicle stands on a street map; in the second, where each rail signal stands on a railway map. Then, on the same map lettered A to D, you name the letter at each one's place.
On the study screen a map appears: in Part 1 a street map with vehicles on it, in Part 2 a railway map with rail signals. When its clock ends, the test screen opens. The same map returns with letters at the places, more places than there were vehicles, and the vehicles or signals sit as pictures beside it, one question each with A to D. You click the letter at each one's old place; the click is kept at once, and the part closes when its clock reaches zero or on Submit. This page gives the screen flow, a method for both stages, the mock's own examples and a 7-day plan.
This portal's own count and clock: 12 questions a part as in the House Position Test, with half a minute more to study and to answer. The railway's mock test for CEN 01/2025 gave 3 questions a part, 1 minute to study and 1 minute to answer, and says the hall's will vary. Four options A to D against each pictured vehicle or signal; click the letter that now stands where it stood. A letter may stand at more than one place on the map, so recall the spot, not the letter.

How the test runs on screen
- 1
Instruction screen
The test opens with Part 1's rules in Hindi and English: the street map and its automobiles, 12 questions, 5 minutes (2.5+2.5). In the railway's mock the rules end with a worked example: a street map with five vehicles, then the same map lettered, with the answers. On the portal this screen allows 5 minutes; Skip Instruction starts the test sooner.
- 2
Study screen, Part 1
A street map appears under a Time Left clock of 2.5 minutes: winding roads, and a vehicle at each of 12 places: cars, trucks, jeeps and the like. There is nothing to click or write; at zero the map closes and will not return.
- 3
Test screen, Part 1
The lettered map sits at the left, A to D at the places, each letter at several places. The vehicles stand at the right as questions, one picture each with A to D. Click the letter at each vehicle's old place; the click is kept at once, and Save only sends it up. The clock gives 2.5 minutes for the part's 12 vehicles.
- 4
Break, then Part 2
A short break with a summary follows. Then Part 2 opens with an instruction screen of its own, as the mock's second section does: the railway map and its rail signals, with Skip Instruction to go on sooner. Then again 2.5 minutes to study and 2.5 minutes to answer, with the signals pictured beside the lettered map.
- 5
Submit
Press Submit, or the clock submits for you at zero. On the portal your T-Score appears at once, with a review of every vehicle and signal. In a Full Mock, Test 2 follows after a break.
A worked example
- Study page, the mock's Section 1 example: a street map with five vehicles, a tractor at the top left, a motorcycle at the top centre, a tractor with a trolley at the middle right, a car at the bottom left and a car at the bottom right.
- Test page: the same map with the letters A, B, C and D at nine places, some letters twice, and the five vehicles pictured beside it as questions 1 to 5.
- Where did vehicle 1 stand? Where did vehicle 2 stand? And so on to vehicle 5.
In the mock's example the answers for vehicles 1 to 5 are D, A, B, C and A. Its Section 2 example, a railway map with three signals, has the answers B, C and A.
The method: how to attempt a question
- 1
Read the roads first, then the vehicles
Take in the roads in one glance: which way the main road runs, where it bends, where a side road joins. The lettered map keeps every road. Then take the vehicles in a fixed order, left to right and top to bottom.
- 2
Give every vehicle an address
Name each vehicle by the road it stands on and what is near it: the car on the top road at the bend, the truck below the fork. An address survives the study clock; a picture of the whole map does not. In Part 2 do the same with the signals: the signal where the tracks cross, the one at the end of the upper line.
- 3
Test yourself before the clock ends
The study clock is 2.5 minutes. At about 2 minutes look away from the map and recall each vehicle's address. One more look for any that will not come. At zero the map is gone.
- 4
Go picture, address, letter
Look at the pictured vehicle or signal, recall its address, find that spot on the lettered map and read the letter standing there. Click it; the answer is kept at once, and there is no Save & Next on this screen. The same letter stands at several places, so the spot decides, not the letter.
6 tips that raise the score
1.Expect extra letters
The lettered map carries more lettered places than there were vehicles: A to D, each at several places. A letter you half remember proves nothing. Fix the place; the letter at that place is the answer.
2.Tell the vehicles apart
The questions are pictures: a car, a truck, a jeep, a tractor. Before the study clock ends, note what sets each apart, so the right vehicle goes to the right place. Two swapped vehicles cost two questions.
3.Learn the signals by shape
The signals in Part 2 differ in shape: a post with round lights, a three-lamp signal, crossed arms. Name each by its shape as you fix its place, so the picture beside the test map calls up the place at once.
4.Spend the extra half minute on the self-test
2.5 minutes to study is half a minute more than the House Position Test gives for the same 12. Do not spend it on a third pass over the map; one pass with addresses, one check, then the self-test is the whole plan.
5.Treat Part 2 as a new map
The railway map has nothing in common with the street map. Drop Part 1 the moment the break ends and read the tracks as you read the roads: where they fork, where they cross, where they end.
6.Practise on a laptop or desktop
The portal works on a phone too, but the exam hall is a desktop screen with a mouse. Sit every practice paper and Full Mock on a laptop or desktop, so the screen, the mouse and the pace are the ones you will meet on the day.
Mistakes that cost marks
- Memorising the vehicles as pictures without tying each one to a road or a bend.
- Clicking a letter because it was somewhere near, when the same letter also stands at another place.
- Spending the whole study time looking at the map and leaving no time to test the recall.
- Carrying the street map into Part 2 and placing a signal where a vehicle had stood.
- Mixing up two vehicles of a similar look, so both go to the wrong place.
A 7-day plan for the Vehicle & Signal Position Test7
| Day | What to do |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Read the instruction screen in full and place the mock example's five vehicles yourself. Check your letters against the answer above. Then sit one practice paper to meet the two maps and the clock. |
| Day 2 | Open the review. For each wrong vehicle or signal, note why: no address, a letter taken from the wrong place, or two pictures swapped. Choose your route through a map and keep it from today. |
| Day 3 | Study stage. Sit a paper and spend the full 2.5 minutes on each map: roads or tracks first, then addresses, then a self-test in the last 30 seconds. |
| Day 4 | Test stage. Sit a paper and go picture, address, letter on every question, checking the spot before the letter. Reach the last question of both parts with seconds to spare. |
| Day 5 | Two maps, two memories. Before the railway map opens, drop the street map. In the review, mark every Part 2 error that came from Part 1. |
| Day 6 | One paper in the morning, one in the evening, both on a laptop or desktop. Between them, draw the morning's two maps from memory and check them against the review. Note whether the evening T-Score moved towards 60. |
| Day 7 | Sit the free Full Mock on a laptop or desktop. If Test 1 arrives as a map kind, read the roads or tracks first, as you did all week; if another kind comes, keep the same fixed order. Then go on to Test 2 without replaying the maps. |
Questions students ask
▸What is the Vehicle & Signal Position Test in the RRB ALP psycho test?
A new kind of the Memory Test, seen in the railway's mock test for CEN 01/2025. In two sections you memorise where vehicles stand on a street map and where rail signals stand on a railway map; then on the same maps, lettered A to D, you mark where each stood.
▸How many questions does it have and how much time do I get?
In the railway's mock, 3 questions a section and 2 minutes a section: 1 minute to study the map and 1 minute to answer, so 6 questions in 4 minutes; the mock says the count and the clock will vary in the actual exam. This portal's practice papers are set like the House Position Test: 12 questions a part, 2.5 minutes to study and 2.5 minutes to answer, so 24 questions in 10 minutes.
▸Vehicle and signal position test kaise hota hai: what exactly is asked?
A map with vehicles, or with rail signals, is shown for 2.5 minutes. Then the map returns with the letters A to D at the places, each letter at several places, and the vehicles or signals pictured beside it. For each picture you click the letter at its old place.
▸Why does the same letter appear more than once on the test map?
The letters are only four, A to D, and the map carries more lettered places than there were vehicles. The extra places hold nothing. Recall the spot where the vehicle stood and take the letter at that spot.
▸How is it different from the House Position Test and the Railway Track Route Test?
All three are map kinds of the Memory Test. House Position (1a) places houses on a map of roads and Railway Track Route (1c) places stations on a railway map, each with 12 questions a part, 2 minutes to study and five options. This kind gives a street map and then a railway map, 12 questions a part too, with 2.5 minutes to study, four options and pictured questions.
▸Is there negative marking in the RRB ALP psycho test?
No. The CBAT has no negative marking. Attempt every question; an unanswered question is a mark lost for certain.
▸What T-Score do I need to pass?
A T-Score of at least 42 in each of the five tests of the CBAT. The portal shows your T-Score on every paper the moment you submit, measured against everyone who sat it.
▸Can I practise on my phone?
Yes, the portal runs on a phone. But the CBAT is taken on a desktop with a mouse, so Kautilya Classes advises every student to sit the practice papers and Full Mocks on a laptop or desktop: the same screen, the same mouse, the same pace as the hall.
▸How do I practise this test on the portal?
Every account gets one free Full Mock after login: all five tests in one sitting with the hall's timing and a scorecard with your T-Score in each test. Practice papers of every kind, with the hall's count and clock, come with a Kautilya Classes package. New students message the team on WhatsApp; Kautilya Classes students get their login from the institute.
