The Following Directions Test is Test 2 of the RRB ALP CBAT, the psycho test after CBT 2. The hall gives it as the Letter Table Test (2a), the Watch Table Test (2b) or the Number Table Test (2c). The Letter Table and the Number Table give 10 questions in 5 minutes; the Watch Table gives 20 in 10. Each question is a sentence of directions. The test measures whether you read it once and carry it out exactly, under a clock. Every kind follows the RDSO guideline (ALPs Guidelines CBT, Jan 2020).
The table or the circle sits at the left, and the questions sit at the right with their options. You read a direction, follow it across the letters or numbers in your head, and click where the path ends. The Time Left clock runs through the whole test; the table stays and only the question changes. The hall gives one kind for Test 2, with that kind's own count and clock (RDSO guideline, ALPs Guidelines CBT, Jan 2020). T-Score 42 or more is needed in this test, as in every test.

The 3 kinds of question in the Following Directions Testसवालों के प्रकार
Test 2 comes as one kind only: Letter Table Test (2a), Watch Table Test (2b) or Number Table Test (2c). The hall does not say which in advance. In the last exam (CEN 01/2024) it gave the Watch Table Test, as the institute's records show. The railway's mock link for CEN 01/2025 gives the Watch Table Test again.

Instruction screen
The test opens with an instruction screen in Hindi and English. It shows the table or the circle you are about to get, with a worked question and its answer. On the portal this screen allows 5 minutes and can be skipped.

Test screen and clock
The Time Left clock starts with the first question. The letter table, the number table or the Watch Table's circle sits at the left and stays for the whole test. Each question sits at the right with its options: letters or numbers from the grid, or numbers from the circle's squares.

Read, follow, click
Read one direction, carry it out on the table in your head and click the option the path ends on. The click keeps the answer; the next direction sits below it in the list.

Submit, or the clock submits
Press Submit when the last question is done, or wait and the clock submits for you at zero. Every marked answer counts; a blank question scores nothing.

Break, summary and T-Score
In a Full Mock a short break with a summary follows, and then Test 3. In a practice paper your T-Score appears the moment you submit, with a review of every direction and its correct answer.

Fix the frame before the first question
Learn the layout on the instruction screen. Grid: rows are numbered in Roman numerals from the top, Row I first, and columns run from the left. Circle: North at the top, then North-East, East, South-East, South, South-West, West and North-West, clockwise.

Read the whole sentence, then move
A direction often has two parts, and the second part works on the result of the first. Take the guideline's question: 'Which number appears just opposite to the number between B3 and D2?' First find the number between B3 and D2. Only then go opposite; the answer is 5. Start moving after the question mark, not before.

Take the path one step at a time
Say each step as you make it: between, then opposite. Reverse Rows I and III, then look below C in Row II. Jumping two steps together is where the wrong letter comes from. On a reversal, picture the row read backwards; the middle cell stays where it is.

Check the stop, then click
At the end of the path ask one thing: is this the letter, or the number, the sentence asked for? The Watch Table wants the number in the square, not the letter beside it. Click, and go to the next sentence.

Keep the pace
Thirty seconds a question, in every kind. Give a lost path one re-read, click the likeliest option and go on. Return only after the last question.
6 tips that raise the scoreसुझाव
1.Each kind has its own direction words
The circle speaks in right-handedly and left-handedly, which are clockwise and anticlockwise. The grids speak in directly above, below and reverse order. Learn the words of all three kinds; the instruction screen's example tells you which set the hall chose.
2.Directly above is one cell, not a column
On the Letter Table and the Number Table, 'directly above A' means the single cell over A, in the same column. In the guideline's example that letter is B. When a number repeats in the grid, find the one the question means before you move.
3.The circle paper runs twice as long
A grid paper ends in 5 minutes; the Watch Table runs 10, with 20 directions in a row. Attention tends to dip in the second half. Sit the circle paper to its last question at the speed of its first.
4.Count places, not letters
On the circle the letters mark places, and the squares hold the numbers you answer with. 'Between' means the single place in the middle of the two named. When the question says 'right-handedly' or 'left-handedly', go that way. When it says 'by the shortest route', take the shorter way round. Do not count the starting place as step one.
5.Use the review, then sit the paper again
After submitting, open the review and reread every direction you got wrong. Note which word misled you: opposite, between, reverse or right-handedly. A practice paper allows up to 3 attempts, and the highest T-Score of the three counts.
6.Practise on a laptop or desktop
The portal works on a phone too, but the exam hall is a desktop screen with a mouse. Sit every practice paper and Full Mock on a laptop or desktop, so the screen, the mouse and the pace are the ones you will meet on the day.
Mistakes that cost marksगलतियाँ
- Starting to move before the sentence ends, and missing the twist in its second half.
- Bringing grid habits to the circle, or circle habits to a grid.
- Reversing a row the direction never named, or not reversing the one it did.
- Drifting a column on 'directly above', or stopping beside one end on 'between'.
- Spending two minutes on one direction and leaving the last questions blank when the clock submits.

▸Do I have to memorise the table in the Following Directions Test?
No. The table or the circle stays on screen from the first question to the last, in every kind. Test 2 measures how exactly you follow a direction under a clock; memory is Test 1's job.
▸What is the difference between the Letter Table and the Number Table?
Only what fills the grid. Both ask about the cell directly above or below and about reversed rows. The Number Table can repeat a number, so find the right one before you move.
▸Is the Following Directions Test in Hindi?
Yes. The instruction screen and every question appear in Hindi and English together, in the hall and on the portal. Read the language you read faster; the direction is the same in both.
▸Is there negative marking in the RRB ALP psycho test?
No. The CBAT has no negative marking. Attempt every question; an unanswered question is a mark lost for certain.
▸What T-Score do I need to pass?
A T-Score of at least 42 in each of the five tests of the CBAT. The portal shows your T-Score on every paper the moment you submit, measured against everyone who sat it.
▸Can I practise on my phone?
