Yes or No Test हाँ या नहीं परीक्षण
The Yes or No Test is kind 4a of the Power of Observation Test, Test 4 of the RRB ALP CBAT. The hall gives 96 questions in 4 minutes on one Time Left clock. Each question is a pair of numbers side by side. You mark Y if the two numbers are the same and N if they differ. Nothing is worked out; the digits are only read and matched. The test measures how fast and how surely your eyes catch a changed or swapped digit.
On screen the pairs sit in rows, one to a row, with a Y and an N beside each. You read the left number, read the right number, click Y or N and move to the next row. Save & Next carries you to the next part of the list. This page gives the screen flow, the RDSO guideline's example, a reading method, the costly mistakes and a 7-day plan. This portal has practice papers for it and one free Full Mock after login.
The hall's own count and clock, as the RDSO guideline (ALPs Guidelines CBT, Jan 2020) gives them. Y and N beside each pair; click Y if the two numbers are the same, N if they differ.

How the test runs on screenस्क्रीन पर कैसे चलता है
- 1
Instruction screen
The test opens with instructions in Hindi and English and five example pairs, answered Y, N, N, Y and N. The portal's screen allows 5 minutes; press Skip Instruction when ready.
- 2
The rows of pairs
The pairs come in rows, 24 to a part, each row with its own Y and N. One Time Left clock of 4 minutes runs over all 96 questions.
- 3
Read, compare, click
Read the left number, then the right one. Click Y if they are the same, N if they differ. Each click is kept the moment you make it.
- 4
Save & Next
Save & Next brings the next part of 24; four parts make the 96 questions. The clock keeps running while the screen changes.
- 5
Submit and T-Score
Press Submit after the last part, or the clock submits at zero. On the portal the T-Score appears at once, with a review of every pair and its correct letter.
A worked exampleउदाहरण
- 589 = 589
- 2768 = 2786
- 36463 = 36462
- 712963 = 712963
- 487562 = 487652
The answers are Y, N, N, Y and N.
The method: how to attempt a questionतरीका
- 1
Read the left number in chunks of three
Take the left number in groups of three digits and see each group as one block: 487 562. A chunk of three is one picture for the eye, easier to hold than six loose digits. A four-digit number splits into two chunks of two, a five-digit one into two and three.
- 2
Read the right number in the same chunks
Read the right number the same way: 487 652. Match chunk against chunk, in order. The moment one differs, stop reading; the answer is already N.
- 3
Click the letter and leave the row
Every chunk the same is Y; any chunk different is N. Click the letter on that row and move to the next pair without a second look.
- 4
Hold one rhythm
Read, read, click, next. The rhythm matters more than any single pair. A steady rhythm reaches the last part; a stop-start one leaves it blank.
6 tips that raise the scoreसुझाव
1.Short pairs are not a rest
589 against 589 takes one chunk, but the next row may hold six digits. Do not let a run of short pairs set a glance pace that you carry into the long ones.
2.Expect two neighbours swapped
Two of the three N pairs in the example swap two neighbouring digits, like 2768 against 2786. Same digits, same length, same look at a glance. Only a chunk read shows the changed order.
3.The last digit is the easiest to miss
36463 against 36462 differs only at the end, where the eye is already leaving for the next row. Read the final chunk in full. The first digit deserves the same care.
4.Hold 24 a minute, never re-check
96 questions in 4 minutes is 24 a minute, two and a half seconds a pair. Trust the first careful read. A hurried second read adds doubt and eats the next pair's time.
5.Keep the pointer on your row
With 24 rows to a part, eyes slip a line and the click lands on the wrong row. Keep the pointer on the row you are reading; the letter then goes where the eye is.
6.Practise on a laptop or desktop
The portal works on a phone too, but the exam hall is a desktop screen with a mouse. Sit every practice paper and Full Mock on a laptop or desktop, so the screen, the mouse and the pace are the ones you will meet on the day.
Mistakes that cost marksगलतियाँ
- Judging a pair by its length alone, when every pair in the example has the same length on both sides.
- Missing two swapped neighbours in the middle of a six-digit number.
- Clicking the Y or N of the row above after the eyes jump a line.
- Reading the numbers as amounts, in thousands and lakhs, instead of as strings of digits.
- Slowing to a crawl after one doubtful pair and losing three or four pairs to the clock.
- Leaving the last part untouched when Time Left runs down, instead of clicking a letter on every row.
A 7-day plan for the Yes or No Test7 दिन की योजना
| Day | What to do |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Work the five example pairs by hand, saying each chunk aloud. Sit one practice paper on a laptop to meet the rows, the Y and N and the 4-minute clock. |
| Day 2 | Open the review of Day 1. Sort every wrong pair: a swap missed, an end digit missed or a click on the wrong row. |
| Day 3 | Sit a fresh paper reading in chunks of three only. Accept a slower pace today; accuracy first, speed after. |
| Day 4 | Speed day: two papers back to back. Reach the last part before Time Left hits zero, keeping the chunk read on every pair. |
| Day 5 | Sit the free Full Mock on a laptop, all five tests in one sitting. Note how your eyes feel on this test after two tests of close looking. |
| Day 6 | Read the Full Mock scorecard. Re-sit your weakest Yes or No paper; you have up to 3 attempts and the highest T-Score counts. |
| Day 7 | One final paper at full speed, then rest your eyes. Target T-Score 60; the pass bar is 42. |
Questions students askसवाल-जवाब
▸How many questions does the Yes or No Test have, and how much time per question?
The RDSO guideline gives 96 questions in 4 minutes on one Time Left clock. That is 24 pairs a minute, two and a half seconds each. The portal's practice papers keep the same count and clock.
▸How many digits do the numbers in the Yes or No Test have?
In the guideline's example the numbers run from three to six digits. Both numbers of a pair have the same length, so length never gives the answer; only the digits do.
▸What kind of difference comes between the two numbers?
Usually one digit changed or two neighbouring digits swapped, as in the example. The length stays the same, so the value of the number tells you nothing; read the digits in order.
▸Did the last RRB ALP exam give the Yes or No Test?
No. In the last exam (CEN 01/2024) the hall gave kind 4d, the Figure Placement Test, as the institute's records show. Any of the four kinds can come, so practise all of them. For CEN 01/2025 the railway's mock link gives the Figure Placement Test again.
▸Is it better to go fast with a few mistakes or slow with none?
Neither. A pair you never reach earns nothing, and a wrong click earns nothing either. The chunk method gives a careful read at the pace the clock sets.
▸How is the Yes or No Test different from the Find 6 Test?
Both are kinds of the Power of Observation Test; the hall gives only one. The Yes or No Test asks whether two numbers match. The Find 6 Test asks which of four digit groups holds a 6, or E when more than one does.
▸Is there negative marking in the RRB ALP psycho test?
No. The CBAT has no negative marking. Attempt every question; an unanswered question is a mark lost for certain.
▸What T-Score do I need to pass?
A T-Score of at least 42 in each of the five tests of the CBAT. The portal shows your T-Score on every paper the moment you submit, measured against everyone who sat it.
▸Can I practise on my phone?
Yes, the portal runs on a phone. But the CBAT is taken on a desktop with a mouse, so Kautilya Classes advises every student to sit the practice papers and Full Mocks on a laptop or desktop: the same screen, the same mouse, the same pace as the hall.
▸How do I practise this test on the portal?
Every account gets one free Full Mock after login: all five tests in one sitting with the hall's timing and a scorecard with your T-Score in each test. Practice papers of every kind, with the hall's count and clock, come with a Kautilya Classes package. New students message the team on WhatsApp; Kautilya Classes students get their login from the institute.
